This historic neighborhood near the lower falls of Whatcom Creek is known for it's diversity, consisting of single family homes, small apartment buildings, offices in older homes, as well as a multitude of parks and buildings featured on the National Historic Register.
Established near the turn of the last century, the neighborhood was intended to be a middle-class community a stone's throw away from the emerging downtown district. Today, the neighborhood retains it's quaint historical character while also enjoying the amenities of modern Bellingham. The Community Development Block Grant Program of the 1960s ensured that the historic homes were well maintained, while installing new streets, sidewalks, sewer and water lines and planting trees.
